Last night I went to the opening of The House of Illustration’s new exhibition Comix Creatrix: 100 Women Making Comics.
The show is the UK’s largest ever exhibition of the work of female comics artists. It features original artwork by 100 women comic creators working across genres and generations – from the 1800s to the present day.
Most people might think that women have a limited stake in the world of comics, but this exhibition certainly proves this is not the case. Women have been making comics for centuries and have helped shape an increasingly popular industry.
It is encouraging to see a show where female artists are the main attraction, unfortunately these are still relatively rare in the art world, but I hope the success of this exhibition inspires others.
This is one not to miss. A really excellent show, which I would definitely recommend visiting.
