London Fashion Week Festival 2018
September is an important month in the fashion calendar. London, Milan, New York and Paris all showcase their next year Spring/Summer collections and many designers use this as an opportunity to create hype around their brands by putting on interactive events and shows.
During fashion week, industry insiders, fashion influencers and high-profile celebrities attend the catwalks and presentations across all four cities. This however means that many of these shows are very exclusive and can only be watched by fashion enthusiasts through means such as the brands live TV links and Instagram.
For those however that would like to be part of the action in London that cannot nab themselves a ticket to the shows, the British Fashion Council puts on an event the weekend after London Fashion Week, open to the public called ‘London Fashion Week Festival’.
London Fashion Week Festival means that everyone and anyone with an interest in fashion, shopping and designer clothes can get a taste of what London Fashion Week is all about. Buying a ticket to the festival means that you can get an insight into a series of inspiring talks by industry experts, you can shop at the curated clothes galleries, take part in the exclusive experiences and have the chance to attend both trend and designer catwalk shows.
Walking through the numerous rooms of designer boutiques, it is easy to find yourself a good discount on designer clothes and accessories – with most brands offering a good percentage off the RRP for the festival only. Each boutique Is beautifully laid out and many have the options to try the clothes on before you buy. Big brands such as Adidas use the weekend to offer special services such as trainer personalization services which cannot otherwise we bought. Too, each clothes brand has a representative to tell you more about the brand or help you find your perfect item.
Alongside the numerous clothes boutiques, the shopping experience also offers services such as the chance to get your ears pierced in the jewelry quarter or have a manicure and pamper in the lounge, which is perfect to book as a treat for yourself in between talks and catwalk shows.
This year the designer catwalks included designers such as; Mother of Pearl, Georgia Hardinge, Katherine Hamnett and Bobby Abley. And, trend shows included various trend catwalk looks from designers which showed their collections at London Fashion Week.
Some of the designers too spoke at the festival. Katherine Hamnett spoke to British Fashion Council Chair, Caroline Rush in a talk on the Friday night about her long career in the industry, eclectic clothes designs and famous political t-shirts. Having the opportunity to listen to industry-changing individuals provides a real insight for those starting out in fashion. Whether it is designing, journalism or communications in fashion, listening to the experiences and advice of industry leaders is an excellent opportunity to learn and gain understanding of such a complex and fascinating industry. Other ‘in conversations with’ included Maisie Williams, Elise by Olsen, Alexandra Shulman, David Gandy and Maria Hatzistefinais.
London Fashion Week Festival also offers the opportunity to listen to talks regarding all aspects surrounding the industry including social media, body positivity, women in fashion, models lives and hair trends. All talks can be attended with the purchase of a talk ticket, therefore whatever sparks your interest – you have the opportunity to listen and have Q and A session with those in the know!
