The creativity of our student community has shone through in another year of outstanding Degree Shows at Goldsmiths.
With the reduced restrictions this summer, many of our students have been able to share their final year work in-person, in a series of striking shows across campus and in other South East London venues.
I was delighted to catch the final day of the MFA Fine Art show earlier this week. Housed in the Ben Pimlott Building, the standard of the work was outstanding both in the range and variety of issues being explored but also the level of construction and sense of intense reflection.
Once again there has been a range of online content throughout this season, giving all of our creative students the opportunity to share their work.
Earlier in the summer term, Goldsmiths Music students took to the stage for PureGold, their annual festival bringing together musicians of all genres. This year’s excellent performances were live-streamed and are still available to watch online here.
And this week I’ve enjoyed browsing the online exhibition by students on MA Children’s Literature: Children’s Book Illustration. These stunning works showcase the imaginations of these talented illustrators and demonstrate a wide range of artistic styles. Their stories tackle topics from monsters under the bed to family life and lockdown, with many students taking inspiration from moments in their own childhoods.
It has been a pleasure to explore the work of our final year students again this year. They have shown such resilience in their learning throughout this incredibly difficult period.
I know that their talent and determination will take them to exciting places in the coming years.
