I was very excited to be invited to this year’s Barnard College Global Symposium, entitled Women Changing Europe.
Female leaders from all over Europe came together in Paris to discuss some of the current events and rapidly changing policies that are influencing women’s roles throughout Europe.
Of course, I was there to talk fashion, with my panel topic being Changing Shape: Gender and the Fashion Industry.
We discussed the ways that fashion designs, products, and publications have shaped expectations of gender roles in society, and explored the possibilities for fashion and gender in the 21st century.
I was joined on the panel by:
Philippe d’Ornano, President, Sisley Cosmetics
Philippe Fortunato, CEO, Givenchy Couture
Pamela Golbin ’92, Chief Curator of Fashion and Textiles, Musée des Arts Décoratifs
Moderator: Caroline Weber, Associate Professor of French, Barnard College
